Description

Amazing bronze bust sculpture. A true work of art. Cast by Gorham Foundry Co. of Providence, RI. Gorham began production of bronze sculptures at their foundry in the 1880’s. This piece is signed “Wigglesworth”. I believe the artist in question is Edward Wigglesworth. I can’t seem to find much about the artist but one of his sculptures is in the inventory of The Museum of Fine Art (MFA) in Boston. They have a date of 1877 on that sculpture which fits the timeframe of the Gorham Foundry well. I’ve included a screenshot of this piece in the listing photos. I believe the piece I have listed was probably produced somewhere between 1885 and 1920 or so. This bronze is basically life size. It sits around 14” tall and 9” wide. It’s weighs 23lbs 8oz. The condition is excellent. The sculptor was very skilled and executed a handsome piece. It has quite a presence! Gorham Foundry pieces are highly desired by collectors. They produced probably the highest quality art bronzes in America at the time. Many of the days top sculptors had their works cast by Gorham. Shipping is ASAP! Thanks
